My name is Luna, and I’m a Uni of Warwick student living at Vita Student Cannon Park, in Coventry. As someone who’s navigated the lively streets and hidden corners of Coventry, I’m excited to share my personal guide to the things to do in Coventry as a student. Whether you’re new here or just looking for new experiences, Coventry has a variety of places that cater to our unique student lifestyle, from buzzing nightclubs to international restaurants and inclusive bars. So if you’re wondering what to do in Coventry, here are my top recommendations.

Kasbah Night Club

Primrose Hill St, Coventry CV1 5LY

An essential element of things to do in Coventry at night is definitely Kasbah for its vibrant club nights. Monday nights at Kasbah are particularly legendary, featuring a variety of musical genres including pop, indie, and R&B across various rooms, catering to all sorts of music tastes. Yet, what truly sets Kasbah apart is its expansive outdoor area, a lively social hub. As a Spaniard, I find the Latin Nights every Saturday the best, although not so popular and underrated. These evenings resonate with reggaeton and salsa beats, offering a taste of Latin culture right in the heart of Coventry.

Xiongqi

1 Priory Pl, Fairfax St, Coventry CV1 5SQ

When it comes to what to do in Coventry with friends, Xiongqi is the go-to destination. Specializing in authentic hot pot cuisine, Xiongqi is celebrated for its rich flavors and the ability to bring people together. The restaurant’s atmosphere is conducive to making lasting memories over shared pots of broth filled with fresh, flavorful ingredients. In my opinion, Xiongqi is a perfect choice for students looking to explore authentic culinary traditions in a cozy, communal setting with friends and family.

Shin Sushi

2, Priory Place, Fairfax St, Coventry CV1 5SQ

If you’re looking for things to do in Coventry on a budget, Shin Sushi is a great choice.  Situated in the bustling heart of Coventry, Shin Sushi offers a refined yet affordable dining experience that appeals particularly to students. This restaurant prides itself on its exquisite sushi selections and aesthetically pleasing decor that creates a perfect backdrop for a relaxed dinner or a photo session with friends. An insider tip: paying in cash at Shin Sushi earns you a notable discount, making it even more attractive for students on a budget.

The yard

Earl St, Coventry CV1 5RU

The Yard is not just a bar; it is a celebration of diversity and vibrancy as a gay bar. This inclusive venue offers one of the most unique things to do in Coventry and is home to the Proud Freedom Festival, a highlight event that draws a diverse crowd. Regular nights at The Yard feature an impressive array of performances from drag artists to live bands and comedians, all designed to foster a spirit of inclusivity and celebration. If you’re looking for a night out where uniqueness is celebrated, The Yard offers an unforgettable experience.

The dim-lighthting and elegant decoration, complimented by creative fusion food, makes a perfect environment for a special date-night.

Alley Food and Mood

Lastly, Alley Food and Mood comes highly recommended from my Chinese friends for its authentic Chinese cuisine, with a menu that includes exotic offerings like frog legs, which are a must try if you want to gain the full experience out of it. Praised by both international students and locals, this restaurant delivers a genuine taste of China in a friendly and inviting atmosphere, making it a prime choice for those looking to expand their culinary horizons, it’s a great spot for those wanting to explore new flavours and add a bit of adventure to their list of things to do in Coventry.
