There are plenty of sport centres and gyms in Sheffield like Sport Sheffield, a venue for students – this venue has a large swimming pool, tennis court, gym, cricket nets and bouldering wall. Since the city is near the outdoors, there are lots of walking and rock-climbing clubs, and indoor climbing walls throughout the city.

Sheffield has a buzzing music scene, and it’s a great city for discovering new artists. The Leadmill, Sheffield’s longest running live music venue, hosts daily gigs with upcoming artists and has an awesome atmosphere. The University of Sheffield’s Student Union, Foundry, also hosts regular live music and is a great place to meet new university friends.

Sheffield has loads of amazing independent bars and restaurants. Division Street is a great place to start, where you can get delicious pizza and cocktails in Bloo 88, or burgers from Bungalow and Bears. There are also some amazing coffee shops and cafes in Sheffield like CAWA Coffee and Steam Yard.

Since Sheffield is a smaller city, students tend to live across the city. Many students live in Sheffield’s city centre, in accommodation like Vita Student Sheffield. You shouldn’t need to pay council tax in the UK as a full-time student in Sheffield. We might ask for evidence of your student status at any point during your stay in order to ensure you are exempt from council tax.

It might be possible to check in earlier than your contract starts, if your room is empty over the summer. Get in touch and we can let you know the earliest date that you can move in.

Once your contract has officially started, you can move in at any time. Closer to the start date, we’ll ask you to let us know when you plan to arrive so that we can make check-in as seamless as possible – but if you need to amend this date and time, you can easily do so from within your Vita Student Account.
