What is there to do in Exeter?more
There’s plenty to get up to in Exeter – it’s full of history, has an excellent food scene and has a huge variety of activities to choose from. Unlike many other cathedral cities, you’re not far from the great outdoors. Exeter’s position on the River Exe and stunning countryside surroundings mean there are plenty of outdoor activities to enjoy, including strolling around the city’s parks and gardens, hiring bikes and canoes, or venturing slightly further out to visit the beach – one of the nearest being Exmouth, just 25 minutes away. If you’re a keen shopper, you won’t be disappointed. Head to PrincessHay for a variety of shops including Apple, Oliver Bonas and Zara, or the high street for local favourites including Urban Outfitters, Laura Ashley, and Roly’s Fudge Pantry (a must try!).

Where are some of the best places to eat out in Exeter?more
Devon’s capital city, Exeter, has loads to offer when you’re looking for a bite to eat. Head to The Daisy Café for a great menu, lovely atmosphere and all local produce. Need to feed the soul? Harry’s Restaurant in the heart of the city has been feeding Exeter for over two decades. If you’re looking for a beautiful spot, Mill on the Exe is not to be missed. Set in a former paper mill on the River Exe, it’s home to one of the city’s best Sunday carveries. And last, but most definitely not least, is The Flat – a planet-friendly vegetarian and vegan restaurant boasting an array of hand-stretched pizzas. Popular with vegans and meat-eaters alike.

What’s the history behind Exeter?more
Exeter is an ancient city which sits on the River Exe in south west England. It’s one of the oldest settlements in the whole of England, surrounded by the Exeter City Walls which date back to the Roman era. Today, remnants of its history can be found all over the city, including historic ruins and medieval buildings. The Exeter Guildhall is the oldest civic building in Britain, with parts of the building dating back as far as 1160. The city is famous for its Cathedral – St Peter’s – founded in 1050 and rebuilt in a decorative gothic style in 1258.

Are there any popular coastal spots I should visit?more
While Exeter doesn’t have its own beach, the coast isn’t far at all. Exmouth has one of Devon’s most beautiful beaches and is only a 25 minute drive away. Dawlish Warren is another popular beach destination with plenty of beach shops and ice cream stores, just a 16 minute train journey from the city. Other nearby coastal spots include Budleigh Salterton beach (30 minute drive), Branscombe Beach (45 minute drive), Ladram Bay (40 minute drive) and Sidmouth Beach (30 minute drive).

What age do I need to be to live with Vita Student?more
You need to be 17+ to live at Vita Student, and a full-time university student in the UK or Barcelona.

Do I need to pay for a TV license and council tax as a student living at Vita Student Exeter?more
If you plan on watching/recording any live terrestrial TV or on BBC iPlayer, you will need to pay for your own TV Licence. You can set up your TV Licence here.
You shouldn’t need to pay council tax in the UK as a full-time student in Exeter. We might ask for evidence of your student status at any point during your stay in order to ensure you are exempt from council tax.

When can I move into my student accommodation in Exeter?more
It might be possible to check in earlier than your contract starts, if your room is empty over the summer. Get in touch and we can let you know the earliest date that you can move in.
Once your contract has officially started, you can move in at any time. Closer to the start date, we’ll ask you to let us know when you plan to arrive so that we can make check-in as seamless as possible – but if you need to amend this date and time, you can easily do so from within your Vita Student Account.
